Charities that I ♥ Love ♥
I strongly believe in the importance of community involvement. Everyone should help support the community through helping to raise awareness of current issues, volunteering & charitable donation.
This is why I offer discounts to those customers who chose to donate to local nonprofits, volunteer,
foster or adopt animal through rescues.
It's important to help make our community & world a better place- always leave it better than you found it! Nonprofits tend to struggle, and suffer especially in a poor economy. Now, more than ever, we need to work to help those who can't help themselves! Thank you for your support!

Community Pet Pantry
Abbie's New "Pet Project-" a Community Pet Pantry to benefit needy families in Wake, Chatham & surrounding Counties. Though it is currently sponsored by the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue we will "Feed Any Breed in Need" (Cats too if we can get the supplies) Our goal is to help prevent unnecessary surrender by loving families who want to keep their pets but are struggling to provide food, medicine & veterinary care due to falling on hard times, job loss, health issue, or family emergency.
Though our rescue was based out of Wake County (a lot of our donations have come from them thus far- thank you to Unleashed Mutts Pet Supplies and Phydeaux Pet Supplies (both in Raleigh) and the Animall Adoption Center in Cary (which is a great resource for any animal nonprofit in the state) I have found most people in need were close to home in Pittsboro. So, the Pet Pantry location has since moved to Pittsboro and we hope to find more local donation collection centers in Pittsboro/Chatham, to cut down on transportation costs as this is the area that seems most in need of such services. Anyone interested in featuring a donation bin in their retail/veterinary location, please let me know and we will ask the community to make purchases at your location to donate. The Community Pet Pantry is a non-breed specific project so despite being sponsored through my work with the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue, it is designed to "Feed Any Breed in Need." We also will work to emphasize the importance of Spay/Neuter to population control and (as funds allow) hope to sponsor spay/neuter for needy families through local discount programs as well as encourage other local programs that benefit animal welfare such as my wonderful friends at Dogs off Chains who offer Free fences to families of tethered dogs
RECENT NEWS 2014: Thank you to our friends at Guardians of Angels Humane Society for setting up a Holiday food drive at Pittsboro Road House ()to benefit the Community Pet Pantry! Our sincere Thanks to the fabulous, friendly owners & staff at Pittsboro Road House! With a variety of Americana cuisine- among my faves being anything pasta (especially their tortellini!), seafood & burgers! Often featuring live, local music in the evenings. They are avid animal lovers and always eager to support local nonprofits.

"We Feed Any Breed in Need"
Our goal is to help prevent unnecessary surrender of pets by loving families who want to keep their pets but are struggling to provide food, medicine & veterinary care due to falling on hard times, job loss, health issue, or family emergency. People surrender their pets for a number of reasons, most often being: financial troubles, behavioral problems, trouble securing pet-friendly housing or health issues. The Community Pet Pantry is designed to help these animals & their humans. No one should ever be forced to part with their pets due to such issues. When times are tough, families need to stick together. Community Pet Pantry benefits needy families in Wake, Chatham & more. Though it is sponsored by the Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue we "Feed Any Breed in Need" (Cats too : )
What We Do:
Our goal is to help provide pet food, supplies, medicines & veterinary care to low-income families who can not afford to provide for their pets needs, thus reducing the amount of animals in shelters & resulting in a lower euthanasia rate. We are working to help support low-cost spay and neuters for intact animals of low-income families by starting to sponsor the co-pays through programs such as Lillie's Fund from Chatham Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) & the reduced-cost program from Animal Control Services. As money allows, I hope to be able to offer assistance for flea/tick & heartworm prevention, some medical treatments.
How We Do It:
Direct donations of products (pet food, cat litter, treats & toys) from the public, retailers or manufacturers, having collection bins at retail locations (groceries, discount stores, feed shops) where members of the public may purchase items from the retailer to donate, as well as collecting monetary donations from individuals & companies to sponsor a “Fix,” feeding, or medical need. We also work to emphasize the importance of Spay/Neuter for population control. Though we will help any animal in need, “intact” animals only receive a limited amount of food, but the owners are notified if they are willing to spay or neuter their pet (at no cost to them if they qualify for discount program, the Community Pet Pantry will pay the fee), they are eligible to receive full benefits of our programs & more long term assistance.
What We Need:
Pet Food * Pet Treats * Fish Oil * Supplements * Cat litter
Flea & Tick Treatment (Advantix/Frontline)
Heart-worm Treatment (Heartgard/Interceptor)
Toys (Balls, Rope Toys, Squeak Toys, etc)
Chew Toys (Kong, Nylabone, Rawhide, etc)
Natural Chews (Bones, Antlers, etc)
Money Donations for Spay/Neuter

Source Force
Our Mission
The mission of Source Force is to bring comfort into the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and Cancer who are at or below the poverty line in Durham, Wake, Orange, and Johnston counties in North Carolina. Simply put, Source Force gives the gift of compassion with no strings attached.
Who We Are
Source Force is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) receiving no government funds.
Every Cent donated goes to help our clients.
Every Cent donated goes to help our clients.
About Source Force
The mission of Source Force, a grassroots, all-volunteer organization, is to bring comfort into the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and Cancer who are at or below the poverty line by providing fun, loving and supportive social activities each month along with necessities such as clothing, household items, and food. Simply put, Source Force gives the gift of compassion with no strings attached. It is designed to remind clients that life is not only about aches, worries, and fears, but about caring, sharing, and joy. Source Force has been in operation for over 25 years.
Because Source Force serves a group that is often marginalized in our community, the goal has always been to provide basic necessities, give unconditional support, create a family atmosphere, and build self-esteem by letting clients know they are not alone. There has been ongoing success in developing a sense of community because all the volunteers focus on making each and every client feel special and valued. Because of this dedication, Source Force was honored with the 2009 Peace Corps Prize.
A service organization that began because one woman saw a dire need in the AIDS community and knew she could make a difference still serves an urgent need today. The same spirit of compassion that was at the heart of its founding still drives the organization. It is successful because volunteers see clients monthly, establish caring relationships with them, and work to address their needs.

What We Do
Through generous donations (both financial & in-kind items) from both individuals and local companies, we are able to help provide our clients with food, clothing, toiletries, household items and small gifts to help lift their spirits. Another essential element is the human connection- we offer love, friendship & emotional support to those we serve. Life is stressful enough for most of us- now imagine being poor, sick and alone. We make sure that our most fragile neighbors know that they aren't in this alone- there are people there to care, to listen and stand beside them through their struggles. HIV & AIDS, even sometimes Cancer, can be highly stigmatized even in our modern society. People let ignorance, bigotry & fear get in the way of trying to understand & love those suffering from these afflictions. Often people are exposed through not fault of their own (blood exposure or being born with it). For some, it was by way of bad decisions. But who can honestly say they've never made mistakes? No one I know besides Jesus himself. Love & understanding are essential to living a happy, productive life. At our monthly Picnics, clients get to choose clothing, we cook a nutritious lunch while our clients play a game of Bingo- we play until everyone wins, and they get their choice of 1 big prize or 2 little prizes from our donations (home goods, decorative items). Lunch is served and we socialize and enjoy
entertainment (bands and the like). Clients are provided a take-home meal, a bag with food & a "We Care Bag" filled with toiletry items that they otherwise could not afford- tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, toilet paper. Yes, it is a sad truth that in a society such as America we have those that physically suffer so acutely with financial hardship to compound it that toilet paper may be an unattainable "luxury." Often we are ignorant to such things because we live in a country blessed with prosperity, and we take these comforts in our daily lives for granted. Seeing people such as this, with so many struggles, that manage to get so much happiness & hope from the support we provide is heartwarming. Please, help us to continue our valuable work. It is greatly appreciated!
How I Help
I am a Volunteer & Board member for Source Force, which means I attend board meetings & picnics, in addition to collecting donations. I am able to write Tax Receipts for all donations (financial or in-kind goods) and those companies who wish to do so may be featured on the "Community Partners" page of the Source Force website so the world will know of your generosity! All in kind donations must be in "like new" condition- working, no broken/missing pieces, no holes/tears/stains. If interested in donating, contact me & will be happy to pick up your donation & provide a receipt for a tax deduction (you assess the value of any in-kind gifts).
Due to the by-laws if Source Force, they are unable to hold fundraisers for themselves, so my company is working to set up fundraisers to help- the Source Force bank account has dropped below the balance of when it was first founded, threatening the valuable services we offer the community. Please Help! Your generosity is essential to our continued good works.

Upcoming Events
In addition to our monthly picnics, we save throughout the year for our Easter Basket project which provides toiletries to clients.

Book & Christmas Decoration Fundraiser
I am working to organize a Book & Christmas Decoration Sale Charity Benefit where you will have the option to chose a free item- book or Christmas Decorations- in exchange for a donation- which could be financial (request minimum 50 cents) or in-kind donation (food, clothing, home goods or gifts- in "like-new" condition, properly working with no missing parts, no holes, stains or damage- food must be non-perishable or fresh/unexpired on or after 3rd Saturday of the month). Tax receipts provided.

Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue
Pit Crew Pit Bull Rescue is an effort to help pit bull type dogs in our community. We provide help in many ways, and how we help is determined by the nature of each situation.
We provide education about the bully breeds (with a special focus on pit bull type dogs), the importance of spaying and neutering, training and socialization, responsible ownership, and about organizations that offer low cost medical services through our website and through being active in the rescue community. We also focus on reaching out to people who might otherwise bring a pit bull type dog to a kill shelter by offering other alternatives, such as allowing us to find a short-term foster home for the dog until the dog can be placed in a permanent "forever home."
PCPBR is a great group of wonderful people that helps to save Pit bulls and Pit mixes in our state. They help rescue dogs at risk of euthanasia in shelter, help remove them from abusive situations, help facilitate adoptions and educate the public to help correct the misconceptions associated with "Bully Breeds." For more information on PCPBR, their fabulous work in our community, and adoptable animals, see links below.

Zeke has found his Furever Family!
Zeke, my former foster (a recovered Bait Dog) has been adopted!
Zeke was found in the median of the highway, his sweet face, neck bloody & covered in bite wounds. He had a massive hematoma in the groin from repeated kicks to the crotch area. This poor baby had seen some dark days, but fortunately a kind couple driving down the highway saw him lying there, half dead, & thinking he had been hit by a car, they stopped to help. They were horrified to see his condition & quickly took him for vet help. In time, they realized from his dozens of bite wounds that he had been a Bait dog, a dog too sweet for dog fighters to coax to fight, so they instead use him as a "practice dummy" to train fighting dogs. Many die in the process of being attacked, others are dumped afterward- either dead or alive, their wounds eventually prove fatal without intervention. He was named "Z" because he seemed so close to the end. They nursed him back to health & contacted us, as they traveled for work & couldn't keep him. Unfortunately, the Rescue was full (no foster homes available) & incredibly low on funds. We let them bring him to our dog wash benefit to attempt to find an adoptive family for him, with no luck. But, I fell in love! This sweet boy, despite enduring all he had suffered, left with physical & emotional scars, he is sweet as pie! I couldn't bear for him to go to the shelter, so when his rescue family could no longer keep him, he came home that night with me. Pongo was a bit confused at first, but then was so happy to have a new best friend! I changed "Z" to "Zeke" which means strengthened by God. This boy was no longer at the end of his life but had a new beginning, and he was surely blessed.

This handsome boy you see is my foster puppy Pongo
& Trust me he is a Lover Not a Fighter!
Pit bulls, along with a lot of other breeds, end up with a "bad rap."
Pit bulls are NOT a Bad Breed,
they are simply a Breed that attracts many Bad Owners.
Any animal, improperly raised, can be made aggressive.
Even some of the pit bulls formerly fought by Michael Vick
were not only rehabilitated but later became Therapy Dogs.

Mission
The Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic provides care for sick, injured, and orphaned native North American wildlife, and promotes conservation and preservation of native wildlife and natural ecosystems through education.
What TWRC Does
Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic is a non-profit organization that helps wildlife in our area. Throughout Spring and Summer, they have a nursery full of hungry, chirping orphaned baby birds requiring feeding & care. The other biggest category of animals that they help are turtles injured in roads or highways. TWRC helps many forms of wildlife in our area- avian, reptile, or mammalian. Please help support them to continue the fabulous work that they do.
How I Help
I volunteer at the TWRC, which involves some cleaning & some animal care. It's so much fun to "tweezer-feed" baby birds!
Washing dishes is my least favorite chore, but it's so much more fun when being serenaded by a nursery of adorable babies!

Dogs Off Chains (Chatham County)
Dogs Off Chains is a non-profit organization in Chatham County North Carolina, dedicated to improving the living conditions of outdoor dogs in our community and helping to strengthen the bond between people and their pets. Our volunteers provide guidance on the proper care of their dogs; offer free or reduced cost spaying or neutering, doghouses, and fences for chained dogs. We are funded by donations from compassionate people who want to change a dog's life and let them live a happy and chain-free life.
I last year I did my first fence-build with Dogs Off Chains. I met a lot of great people and got to build a fence that would change the life of Patches the Akita forever! It was a moving experience to see a dog liberated, to be able to enjoy life untethered. They regularly have builds and need all the help we can get!
